Trust / Distrust

Jesus told St. Faustina, The graces of My mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only, and this is -- trust (Diary, 1578). Growing in trust is key to developing a deep and abiding relationship with the Lord Jesus. The more we trust in the Lord the more graces we receive from Him, and He rejoices in giving them to us.

On the other hand, when we distrust Jesus, He is hurt because we have refused His mercy. We wound His merciful Heart, since He loves us and wants to pour out His mercy upon us. Yet He so respects our human freedom, which He created, that He will not violate it by forcing His mercy on us.

In our relationship with Jesus, trust is our faith, hope, and love in action. Trust is an action verb that takes in all three. It combines the past focus of our faith in what Jesus did, the present ''now'' dimension of His love for us, and the future dimension of hope because f what He has prepared for us in heaven.

Trust, then, means to believe in Jesus, to love Him, and to hope in Him. It means to be totally absorbed in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, to reply completely on Him. We desire to have His thoughts, His will, His power, His Heart, and His total trust in the Father.

Now, why is trust in Jesus so important? Because it is our response to God's great mercy. In fact, "Jesus, I trust in You!" is the summary statement of The Divine Mercy message and devotion that the Savior gave to St. Faustina. That is why the Lord Jesus asked that we personally sign the image of The Divine Mercy with the words, "Jesus I trust in You!" Our very praying "Jesus, I trust in You!" is an act of trust -- an act of faith, hope, and love in Him. It can and should express the deepest desire of our heart.

May the powerful words of Jesus on trust encourage you to pray frequently and earnestly: "Jesus, I trust in You!"

The Role of Priests

I desire that priests proclaim this great mercy of Mine towards souls of sinners. Let the sinner not be afraid to approach Me. The flames of mercy are burning Me -- clamoring to be spent; I want to pour them out upon these souls (Diary, 50).

My Prayer Response

Jesus, inspire priests to proclaim to sinners Your mercy. May the flames of mercy that burn You, burn out the sins of those who receive Your mercy.

Distrust Is Tearing at My Insides

Jesus complained to me in these words, distrust on the part of souls is tearing at My insides. The distrust of a chosen soul causes Me even greater pain; despite My inexhaustible love for them they do not trust Me. Even My death is not enough for them. Woe to the soul that abuses these [gifts]. (Diary, 50)

My Prayer Response:

Jesus, open the hearts of distrusting souls, especially the hearts of chosen souls to Your mercy. As they receive Your mercy, may they give You joy!

hurt by a Soul's Distrust

Oh, how much I am but by a soul's distrust! Such a soul professes that I am Holy and Just, but does not believe that I am Mercy an does not trust in my Goodness. Even the devils glorify My Justice but do not believe in my Goodness.

My Heart rejoices in this title of Mercy
(Diary, 300).

My Prayer Response:

O Jesus, may distrusting souls, by Your special grace profess and proclaim that You are mercy and goodness Itself! Hear my prayer that Your Heart may rejoice as these souls turn to You with trust.
