Every Thursday Prayer for Priests

Post  Guest on Thu Dec 11, 2008 9:09 am

Thank you for providing these section topics for our precious priests... To get us started let's begin with what Our Lord revealed to Mama Rosa Quatrini in San Daniano, Italy on August 14, 1965, Jesus Christ told Mama Quatrini: "Pray for the Priests. Pray with Might and do not cease praying, for the devil wants their downfall. Pray, My sons, you who are close to me." - From The Pieta Prayer Book...

Thursday Prayer for Priests - December 11, 2008

Post  Guest on Thu Dec 11, 2008 9:31 am

Advent Greetings!

Your prayers for our priests are a great gift and blessing. Enjoy the beautiful Advent
prayer below the prayer for priests from Fr. Frank Pavone.

My God and Father, in response to the word of your Son on the Mount
of Olives, "Watch and pray with me," we ask you to accept us as special
helpers for your priests, on behalf of whom, we offer you each Thursday as
a sacrifice of love.

With a fervent desire of being such a helper of priests, I offer you, Father,
in complete confidence, each Thursday as a sacrifice of love on behalf of
all priests. Take this sacrifice of my poor love and transform it in your Heart
into the wine for the Chalice of Strength. Then, Father, send your angels
out with this chalice to all priests! Amen.

My God, I pray for all your priests and beseech you to sanctify them. Let them love
their sacrifice deeply so that they may live it lovingly.

I beg you, grant them obedience, a spirit of detachment, a chastity which is constant and true, a spirit of self-denial, humility, sweetness, zeal and dedication.

I beg you that all those who may approach them may leave them with a greater
love for you. My God, I pray that through them your kingdom on earth may grow and
be strengthened. O Jesus, I promise with all my heart to sacrifice myself with you.
Amen. -Canon Formingao

God of Life,
We rejoice in the promise of your coming.

You have sent your Son, born in Bethlehem.
He is the Prince of Peace, and
The one in whose name all oppression shall cease.

May we welcome his coming each day
And prepare for his coming at the end of time.
May we build a culture that welcomes him
By welcoming every child, born and unborn.

We pray through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen. -Fr. Frank Pavone

Dear Friends,

In the spirit of thanksgiving we offer our prayers for His priests anticipating the Joy to come.
I am happy to share below a new prayer from a friend.

Thursday Prayer ~

My God and Father, in response to the word of your Son on the Mount
of Olives, "Watch and pray with me," we ask you to accept us as special

Prayer for Priests
O Jesus, our great High Priest,
Hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priests.
Give them a deep faith
a bright and firm hope
and a burning love
which will ever increase
in the course of their priestly lives.
In their loneliness, comfort them
In their sorrows, strengthen them
In their frustrations, point out to them
that it is through suffering that the soul is purified,
and show them that they are needed by the Church,
they are needed by souls,
they are needed for the work of redemption.

O loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests,
take to your heart your sons who are close to you
because of their priestly ordination,
and because of the power which they have received
to carry on the work of Christ
in a world which needs them so much.
Be their comfort, be their joy, be their strength,
and especially help them
to live and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy. Amen.

Thursday Prayer for Priests - December 25, 2008

Post  Guest on Mon Dec 29, 2008 10:29 pm

I love our Catholic Faith and especially our Priests!!!

Dear Friends of our priests,

On this most blessed and holy Nativity of the Lord I wish you
a joy filled Christmas Season! In His infinite love to remain with us always He gave us the priesthood to bring us the Sacraments. For each of them we offer a joyous prayer of thanksgiving.

A Prayer for Priests highprayer

Lord Jesus, we your people pray to You for our priests. You have given them to us for our needs. We pray for them in their needs.
We know that You have made them priests in the likeness of Your own priesthood. You have consecrated them, set them aside, anointed them, filled them with the Holy Spirit, appointed them to teach, to preach, to minister, to console, to forgive, and to feed us with Your Body and Blood.
Yet we know, too, that they are one with us and share our human weaknesses. We know too that they are tempted to sin and discouragement as we are, needing to be ministered to, as do we, to be consoled and forgive, as do we. Indeed, we thank You for choosing them from among us, so that they understand us as we understand them, suffer with us and rejoice with us, worry with us and trust with us, share our beings, our lives, our faith.
We ask that You give them this day the gift You gave Your chosen ones on the way to Emmaus: Your presence in their hearts, Your holiness in their souls, Your joy in their spirits. And let them see You face to face in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread.
We pray to You, O Lord, through Mary the Mother of all priests, for Your priests and for ours. Amen.

Written by John Cardinal OʼConnor

The Good News
"And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 'Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!' So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, 'Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.' And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying, which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things, which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them."

Thursday Prayer for Priests - December 31, 2008

Post  Guest on Wed Dec 31, 2008 7:36 pm

Dear Friends,

Blessings this beautiful Solemnity of Mary Mother of God and wishes for a blessed New Year too! This is certainly an appropriate day to turn to our Blessed Mother asking for protection for our priests.

Prayer

Mary, Mother of the Church and Mother of God, to you we turn. With your "yes" you
have opened the door to the presence of Christ in the world, in history and in souls,
receiving in humble silence and total submission the appeal of the Most High.
Grant that many men and women may know and hear, even today, the inviting
voice of your Son: "Follow Me". Stretch out your motherly hand over all missionaries
scattered throughout the world, over religious men and women who assist the elderly,
the sick, the deficient, the orphans; over those who are engaged in teaching, over the
members of secular institutes, the silent leaven of good works; over those who in the
cloister live on faith and love and beg for the salvation of the world. Amen.

Dear Friends,

Such a simple act, yet more powerful than we can begin to imagine. Thank you for your prayers for our priests.

My God and Father, in response to the word of your Son on the Mount of Olives, "Watch and pray with me," we ask you to accept us as special helpers for your priests, on behalf of whom, we offer you each Thursday as a sacrifice of love. With a fervent desire of being such a helper of priests, I offer you, Father, in complete confidence, each Thursday as a sacrifice of love on behalf of all priests. Most beloved Jesus, with a singular benevolence you have called your priests from among thousands of men to follow you in the excellence of priestly dignity. We beg you for the divine strength to rightly fulfil their ministry. We implore you, Lord Jesus, to daily renew the grace given to them through the imposition of the hands of the Bishop. O most powerful doctor of souls, heal them so that they may not fall back into evil, that they may flee from every sin, and that they may do what is pleasing in your eyes until the hour of their death. Amen.

Dear Friends,

So many blessings have been bestowed on the people of Michigan. The new Archbishop of Detroit, Bishop Vigneron, is one good example! We hold them and all of our shepherds in prayer each day and offer our special Thursday prayer.

Thursday Prayer ~

Prayer ~

Keep them I pray thee, dearest Lord,
Keep them for they are Thine;
Thy priests whose lives burn out
before thy consecrated shrine.
Keep them for they are in the world
though from the world apart;
When earthly pleasures tempt, allure -
shelter them in thy Heart.
Keep them and comfort them
in hours of loneliness and pain,
When all their life of sacrifice for souls
seems but in vain.
Keep them and remember, O Lord,
they have no one but thee.
Yet they have only human hearts,
with human frailty.
Keep them as spotless as the Host,
that daily they caress.
Their every thought and word and deed,
deign dearest Lord, to bless. Amen.

Thursday Prayer for Priests February 12, 2009

Post  ForHimthruHer on Thu Feb 12, 2009 2:43 pm

Dear Friends,

Tell a priest you prayed for him today. Such a simple act will not go unrewarded.

O my Jesus, I beg you on behalf of the whole Church, grant it love and the light of your Spirit and give power to the words of priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to you, O Lord.
Lord, give us holy priests. Your yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil's traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests. May the power of your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for you can do all things. I ask you, Jesus, for a special blessing and for light for the priests before whom I will make my confessions throughout my lifetime. Amen.

Thursday Prayer for Priests - February 19, 2009

Post  ForHimthruHer on Wed Feb 18, 2009 9:21 pm

Dear Friends,

As the Lenten Season quickly approaches, we will pray in a special way for our priests and the added demands placed on them.

Take this sacrifice of my poor love and transform it in your Heart into the wine for the Chalice of Strength. Then, Father, send your angels
out with this chalice to all priests! Amen.

O Almighty, Eternal God, look upon the Face of your Son and for love of him, who is the Eternal High Priest, have pity on your priests. Remember, O most compassionate God, that they are but weak and frail human beings. Stir up in them the grace of their vocation which is in them by the imposition of the bishop's hands. Keep them close to you, lest the enemy prevail against them, so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their sublime vocation.

O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests; for your unfaithful and tepid priests; for your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for your tempted priests; for the lonely and desolate priests; for your young priests; for your dying priests; for the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I commend to you the priests dearest to me, the priest who baptized me, the priests who have absolved me from my sins, the priests at whose Masses I have assisted and who have offered me your Body and Blood in Holy Communion, the priests who have taught and instructed me or helped and encouraged me, and the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way.

O Jesus, keep them all close to your Heart, and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen.

-Cardinal Cushing

The 40 Days for Life campaign will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 25, 2009, and run through all of Lent. It is a program that asks people to pray for an end to abortion. If people would like to, they can join a local group and pray in front of an abortion clinic for an hour as often as they wish during the 40 days. People can also fast with the intention of ending abortion. Visit www.40daysforlife.com to read how you can participate!

Thursday Prayer for Priests - March 5, 2009

Post  ForHimthruHer on Wed Mar 04, 2009 9:52 pm

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your weekly (and daily!) prayers for our priests. It
is a wonderful devotion to pass on to family and friends as well
as a beautiful testimony of our love for them.

Prayer for Priests

0 my God, pour forth upon thy priests the spirit of sacrifice

in its fulness. It is their glory as much as their duty to be

victims, to consume themselves for souls, to often live without

human joys, to often undergo mistrust, injustice and

persecution.

May they reflect upon what they say each day at the altar:

"This is My Body; this is My Blood." May they reflect on

it and apply it to themselves: "I am no longer myself, I am

Jesus, and Jesus crucified. I am, like the bread and wine,

a consecrated substance which has ceased to be itself"

0 my God, I burn with the desire of the sanctification of Thy

priests. I would that all those consecrated hands which touch

Thee be friendly hands whose contact be sweet to Thee, and
that the mouths which pronounce at the altar words so sublime
never lower themselves to trivial formulas.

May they keep in their entire person the habit of their noble
functions. May one find them simple and great, like the Host,
accessible to all and superior to other men.

0 my God, make them carry away from the Mass of today the
thirst for the Mass of tomorrow, and may each of them, filled
with gifts received, have the grace to communicate them
generously to others. Amen.

Most gracious Heavenly Father, We thank you for our faithful priests and bishops, whose spiritual fatherhood and example of fidelity, self-sacrifice, and devotion is so vital to the faith of your people.

May our spiritual fathers be guided by the examples of Saints Peter and Paul, all the Apostles and their saintly successors. Give them valiant faith in the face of confusion and conflict, hope in time of trouble and sorrow, and steadfast love for you, for their families, and for all your people throughout the world.

May the light of your Truth shine through their lives and their good works. May they generously impart this knowledge to those who rely on them. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
