Dear LifeNews.com Friend,
With the election of Barack Obama as president, the old adage that “We have our work cut out for us” certainly applies now.
We know Obama will do the bidding of groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL from day one -- as he is expected to immediately overturn President Bush’s policies preventing taxpayer funding of groups that perform or promote abortions in other nations.
In fact, as you know, LifeNews.com profiled a new memo that saw every pro-abortion group in the nation outline its marching orders for Obama.
Obama is also expected to sign a Congressional bill called the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) that would make the Roe v. Wade decision that allowed virtually unlimited abortions for any reason in pregnancy the national law.
If approved, the FOCA bill would also go further by overturning every pro-life law on the books in every state -- from a ban on tax-funding of abortions to parental consent to laws helping medical professionals avoid being forced to do an abortion.
LifeNews.com will keep you and hundreds of thousands of other pro-life advocates informed of what Obama does – and we need your help to do it!
We don't have the big budgets of our opponents on the pro-abortion side. Unlike Planned Parenthood, we didn't bring in $1 billion in income in our last fiscal year.
In fact, returning home from Christmas vacation with my wife and family this year, I was shocked by an email I received from Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards. She claims "donations that support our work are down" and that she is "depending" on the financial gifts of abortion advocates to keep her abortion centers open.
Yet, she says she's elated that an anonymous donor will kick in $300,000 -- that's triple our annual budget -- in a matching year-end gift.
Of course, Richards fails to give her backers any straight talk about how government funding of Planned Parenthood will skyrocket under an Obama administration.
LifeNews.com doesn't have that kind of funding to counter Planned Parenthood's lies and misinformation with the truth, for example, of how three of its abortion centers tried to cover up cases of statutory rape.
No news service anywhere in the world -- mainstream or otherwise -- brought you as much in-depth coverage as LifeNews.com the last few weeks about how this abortion business is repeatedly putting young girls at risk.
The fact of the matter is that we could do so much more to keep the pro-life movement informed with a larger budget, but we are content with what God gives us and continue stretching every dollar by focusing instead on our mission.
If you've seen anything since 1992 when we first started, you know LifeNews.com has always been dedicated to one thing -- educating pro-life people about the most important political or social issue in the world today: the protection of human life from abortion and practices like euthanasia or anti-life science.
We're not concerned with a big budget, a big staff, a big building or any of the other flash that accompanies having a huge influx of cash. Richards can keep her fancy digs in Washington, we just want to put her abortion company out of business!
In fact I am going to violate three of the biggest donor letter no-nos in one fell swoop by being brutally honest with you.
First, if you can't afford to send a year-end donation to LifeNews.com, then don't.
In these hard economic times, taking care of your family -- both immediate and extended -- is significantly more important. If grandma's heating oil, your son's soccer team dues, or your own ability to make ends meet is in peril, then we would urge you to care for your family.
Secondly, if sending LifeNews.com a donation would make it so you would cancel or reduce the amount of the donation you would normally give to another pro-life group, then please don't send us a contribution.
As I say over and over again, LifeNews.com is part of the larger pro-life team and we talk daily with pro-life leaders and groups who are struggling financially. My wife Julie and I are blessed to be involved on the boards of a pregnancy center and local pro-life group and we know intimately how they're hurting, too.
So please don't sacrifice your support for your favorite pro-life group or pregnancy center -- they need your help. Our job at LifeNews.com is to support their hard work and efforts, not to deprive them of much-needed donations.
Finally, LifeNews.com is not going to go into the details of our own funding needs or difficulties. At the end of the day, we live paycheck to paycheck like most people and serving the pro-life community requires significant sacrifices of time and money -- but the Lord always provides for our needs.
We're never going to challenge you to give to make up for folks who don't, talk about what percentage of our readers don't support us and chide them for it, or write donor letters coercing you into giving by claiming the sky will fall on LifeNews.com if we don't get your check tomorrow.
What we will do is promise you that we will always get you the most timely and exhaustive pro-life news and information possible.
We will leave no stone unturned as we expose Barack Obama's pro-abortion agenda. We will never stop reporting the abuses that occur at Planned Parenthood and abortion businesses as they put women at risk in addition to destroying the lives of millions of tiny babies. We will highlight the good work of pro-life groups both across our nation and around the world.
We have done that since 1992 and we will never stop doing that until the day comes when human life is protected on a global level from abortion, euthanasia and grisly practices like human cloning and embryonic stem cell research.
If that dedication motivates you to send a gift of any amount, we would be blessed to receive it. You can send a donation to us via PayPal at news@lifenews.com or use the form below.
We have lots of exciting plans for expanding LifeNews.com in 2009 and we can assure you that every penny of your donation goes to growing and supporting your pro-life news service.
May the Lord bless you and keep you this next year and may He bless everything you do to further the cause of protecting the innocent. May you never tire of speaking out and doing the right thing.
In Christ and For Life,
