Sun night my mother was a victim of a home invasion, ( in Lexington on Beacon Hill Rd). They beat her in the head with a hammer and stabbed her several times, ripped off her life alert signal from around her neck and some how she still pulled the phone cord to her and dialed 911.
She was in surgery 4 hours with two surgery teams to remove a steak knife through her arm into her chest, reconstruct her scalp and other stabs and cuts. She has been in the trauma ICU since and will be another few days.
Surprisingly she has no permanent damage but will have a long painful recovery.
The people that did this have been caught. They had done some odd jobs for her earlier this summer and showed up a week ago begging and she gave them $30 to help them out. One adult and one juvenile are in jail and the wife will soon join them, as I called the bank at opening a put a freeze and alert on all her accounts, and the wife tried to use the ATM card Mon. Her story is mom gave it to her to use and the police can't arrest her until mom is able to tell the police she didn't. That may be a few days since shes intubated but the wife is on camera so she can't deny.
Mom is 76 and refused to not stay in her own home. We moved her and dad in with us five years ago and they stayed 9 months. They found a house about three blocks from us and dad passed away shortly thereafter and she has lived alone since refusing to give up her independence. I had to take the car away 3 years ago and sell it so she depends on us for everything but still got to have her own place close by.
It appears those days of independence are now over for her.
