There haven't been any dates given as of yet, but the canonization decrees for both Popes have just been signed by Pope Francis :

(Vatican Radio)
Journalists in the Holy See Press Office busy getting to grips with Pope Francis’ first encyclical the Light of Faith, were somewhat surprised Friday lunchtime when Director Fr. Federico Lombardi S.J. called them back for a second announcement: Pope Francis had approved the cause for canonization of two of his venerable and much loved predecessors Blessed John XXIII and Blessed Pope John Paul II. Emer McCarthy reports:

Meeting with Cardinal Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Cause of Saints, Friday morning, Pope Francis approved the promulgation of the decree and also convoked a special Consistory of the College of Cardinals to discuss the canonization of the Polish pope in depth. . .

So let's make it a point, when we see one of these -

or these

of not only remembering them with fondness, but to think "intercessor" too.

Pope Francis' own testimony confirms that St. John Paul II not only prayed the Rosary regularly, but that his example inspired Pope Francis to also pray the Rosary, daily :

Pope John XXIII's encyclical of September 26, 1959 GRATA RECODATIO -ON THE ROSARY: PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH, MISSIONS, INTERNATIONAL AND SOCIAL PROBLEMS , confirms that he too, prayed the Rosary daily :

Excerpt:

Pope John's Devotion to the Rosary

    3. These pleasant memories of Our younger days have not faded or vanished as the years of Our life have passed. On the contrary, We want to declare in complete frankness and simplicity that the years have made Mary's rosary all the dearer to Us. We never fail to recite it each day in its entirety and We intend to recite it with particular devotion during the coming month.

They've both just been canonized, and they both prayed the Rosary regularly, daily . . .  hmmm

Coincidence . . . ?     highly unlikely . . .  dts

Today's canonizations should also serve as a reminder to invoke the  intercession of these saints , particularly when we are praying the Rosary. Or, if we aren't praying the Rosary presently on a regular basis, we might discover that invoking them could initiate a change for the better in this regard.

Various definitions exist of precisely what a saint is - some more detailed (even complicated) than others; more so when considering what it means technically to officially be called a saint in the eyes of the Church. One nice simple, direct,  definition is found in the Miriam Webster dictionary . . .but  it happens to be for a different word in this case, yet it would seem almost as appropriate :

Trailblazer

: a person who marks or prepares a trail through a forest or field for other people to follow

John XXIII and John Paul II :

Popes, Saints , trailblazers .
