Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Our Lady of America! Spread the word: Write to Pope Francis!!! AssumptionBVM

Pope Francis will venerate Our Lady of Fatima on October 13, 2013: (Details)

Pray that Pope Francis will come to agree with Father Robert J. Fox in his Immaculate Heart Messenger [Spring 2007 Issue] and endorse the Marian devotion to "Our Lady of America" [this is distinct from "Our Lady of Guadalupe, Empress of the Americas"] as being related to Our Lady of Fatima and to Peace through Purity. See: (Article) or (Newsletter Archive). If, after prayer and prudent reflection, one believes that he or she should write to His Holiness, Pope Francis, and encourage Him to endorse this devotion and lead the Catholic bishops in the "solemn procession" which "Our Lady of America" requested of Her statue into the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Washington, D.C., then please do not hesitate to do so. Many have come to believe that the solemn procession which Our Lady specifically requested will facilitate the Triumph of Her Immaculate Heart, including Father Robert J. Fox, apostle of Our Lady of Fatima.

You can write The Holy Father using the following:

His Holiness, Pope Francis
Pontifex Maximus
Domus Sanctae Marthae
00120 Vatican City, S.C.V. [Europe]

Send a copy of your letter to:

His Eminence, Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke
c/o Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine at La Crosse
5250 Justin Road
La Crosse, WI 54602
United States of America

"By Your Holy and Immaculate Conception, O Mary, Deliver Us From Evil."

National Shrine of The Immaculate Conception , Washington DC

History

In 1846, an excerpt from a Massachusetts newspaper told of "a magnificent Catholic church [to] be built at Washington, D.C. after the manner of the great cathedrals of the Old World from subscriptions of every Catholic Parish in America.”

Spanning the late 19th, 20th and now 21st century, American Catholics would indeed build a sanctuary that rivals those of Europe and the world, not only in size but in stature as well—in sacred art, architecture, history and heritage.

Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, under her title of the Immaculate Conception, the Basilica is the nation’s preeminent Marian shrine. With over 70 chapels and oratories that relate to the peoples, cultures and traditions that are the tapestry of the Catholic faith and the mosaic of our great nation, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is indeed, America’s Catholic church.

In 1847 , at the petition of the bishops of the United States , Pope Pius IX named the Blessed Virgin Mary Patroness of the United States under her title of the Immaculate Conception

What is notable about the second quote directly above , is that it was not until  Dec. 8, 1854 that Pope Pius IX officially declared the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in his  Papal Bull  , Ineffabilis Deus .

ehh

In order to ensure that the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on the Catholic University campus would be a recognizable and important architectural element on Washington's skyline, the Boston architect Charles D. Maginnis of the firm Maginnis and Walsh included both a lofty dome (237 feet) and tall carillon (329 feet) in his design. The National Shrine is America's largest Roman Catholic church, and although shorter at 459 feet than many other churches, its 77,500 square feet of space place it eleventh largest in the world. Its massiveness, as well as the combination of Byzantine and Romanesque styles of architecture, were conscious attempts to vie with, but distinguish it from, the Neo-Gothic Episcopal National Cathedral
