If Jesus Came in Person to Spend Some Time With You
Part I of II
An interesting title, don't you think ?
The first section of this reflection is based on a poem written by English professor and poet Lois Kendall Blanchard Eades, who passed away only January 18, 2011 (may she rest in the eternal embrace of the Most Holy Trinity).
The poem’s title is IF JESUS CAME TO YOUR HOUSE . When researching the poem over the net, I came across various versions of the same poem – some shorter, some longer- often not even bothering to mention the name of IF JESUS CAME TO YOUR HOUSE’s author. The version rendered below appears to be unique. It is the version which was read to us Saturday morning, December 1st, 2012 in a homily given by Father Louis during a Mass celebrated in honour of our Blessed Mother. It differs in that it is an admittedly shorter version and the only version I’ve read to date which mentions a crucifix (so the original version may differ significantly and may not have mentioned a crucifix). But the sentiment remains : If Jesus came to your house.

IF JESUS CAME TO YOUR HOUSE
If Jesus came to your house
To spend a day or two,
If He came unexpectedly,
I wonder what you’d do.
Oh, I know you’d give your nicest room
To such an honored guest
And all the food you’d serve Him
Would be the very best.
But when you saw Him coming,
I wonder what you’d do.
Would you rush right to the door to let Him in
Or would you first hide a magazine or two
And put the Bible and crucifix back where they’d been?
And I wonder – if the Saviour
spent a day or two with you,
Would you go right on doing, the
things you always do?
Would you go right on saying, the
things you always say?
Or would life for you continue
as it does from day to day?
Would you take Jesus with you
everywhere you go?
Or would you maybe change your
plans for just a day or so?
Would you be glad to have Him
stay forever on and on?
Or would you sigh with great
relief when He at last had gone?
It might be interesting to know,
the things that you would do,
If Jesus came in person
to spend some time with you.
