UPDATE March 9, 2010
Father Allard has continued to concelebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass successfully on the scheduled Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thanks for the prayers.
The Sunday before last (February 28, 2010) one of Father Allard's Servite confrères came to visit him and attended Mass too. We also have another priest (86 years old) presently at the Institute temporarily for rehabilitation. So February 28th, there were a total of 4 priests at the Institute's Sunday Mass - 3 concelebrating. Thanks for the prayers.
Talk about feeling power when you pray ! ... Thanks for the prayers.
Last Friday, March 5, after bringing Father Allard Holy Communion,I mentioned to him that his friends on the internet were continuing to pray for him. I asked if there was anything "...you would like to say to them?"
He replied, "Que Dieu les remplisse avec sa Benediction" which, roughly translated , is:
"May God fill them with his blessing."
Thanks for the prayers.
Sunday afternoon (March 7) Father Allard heard my confession.
...BTW, ... Did I mention "Thanks for the prayers?"
Hail Mary,
full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.
AMEN

UPDATE
Let’s take it from here :
On Good Friday, April 2nd 2010, I arrived at the Institute in the early afternoon only to find that all activities (Good Friday service included) had been cancelled due to an outbreak of gastroenteritis. Several floors were under full quarantine (still are). On Father Allard's floor the residents were/are still being allowed one visitor at a time. So we celebrated the Passion of our Lord together in his room and he received Holy Communion. Father Allard can only receive a small fragment of a Host now due to difficulties in swallowing. His one working arm/hand, no longer permits him the ability to place Holy Communion in his mouth himself ... I had to place it on his tongue.
We followed this with about 2 decades of the Rosary, after which Father Allard couldn't take any more - he was just too exhausted.
Holy Saturday afternoon, owing to an increasing weakness, Father Allard was brought Holy Communion in the form of viaticum. I suggested we read the gospel from the Easter Vigil in anticipation of its celebration elsewhere several hours later. Again, when we attempted to follow up with a Rosary, Father Allard could only take about 2 decades.
The hope was that Easter Sunday the Chaplain would still celebrate a private Mass in the chapel although the official Mass was cancelled due to no residents being allowed to circulate. In the past, this would happen and we were permitted to bring Father Allard down to concelebrate this Mass in the chapel.
Easter Sunday, the Chaplain did show up, but Father Allard had become much weaker (too sick to concelebrate) and remained in bed on oxygen. I brought him Holy Communion and we read the Gospel for Easter Sunday. Later in the afternoon after the rest of the apostolate had been completed, there was a little time to return and visit Father Allard.
On Monday April 5th one of Father Allard's brothers was in to see him. We learned it was no longer simply a case of pneumonia. There is a serious disease of the blood now. It is unlikely that Father Allard's weakened immune system can continue to win any battles and if he doesn't respond to the antibiotics, they also may have to be withdrawn . What I'm relating (about the blood) is what I received from his brother over the phone in french so I'm not familiar with all of the french medical terms for blood disorders but this one would seem to have involve a low white blood cell count.
Yesterday, Tuesday April 6th , I was in to see Father Allard. He received viaticum, but due to very extreme difficulty swallowing I had to give him a fragment of Holy Communion about the size of the lead tip of a sharpened pencil, and then could only place several drops of water on his tongue to help him consume it. They are continuing to hydrate him intravenously .
He was read the Gospel . We tried a slightly different approach for the Rosary. I suggested , since he could give no audible response, that he could simply follow it with me, and that I would recite it slowly. After 2 decades, I explained to him where we were and which mysteries we were praying then asked if we should continue – He nodded. So we prayed two more decades and then completed the Glorious Mysteries praying the final decade after getting another nod of his approval.
When he was woken a little later by a loud noise out in the hallway , I prayed an hour of the breviary audibly standing right beside him so he could follow it. Up to that point, all the prayers had been in french, but I don’t know my way around a french breviary too well, so the hour was prayed in english. This didn’t bother Father Allard or impede his understanding at all. Actually, earlier in his life, as a missionary in Africa, he taught english to his parishoners.
It could be as early as today that treatment (antibiotics) may need to be withdrawn.
Although Father Allard has come back several times from some serious bouts with pneumonia, these latest developments present themselves as more critical, particularly in light that he continues to weaken.
We may well be approaching the moment when it is all consummated and Father Allard says in unison with our Blessed Lord, “It is finished.”
Hail Mary,
full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now,
and at the hour of our death.
AMEN
ps @ OurLady01 aka OLOV: He got your message.

It was my wish that everyone could have known a little sooner , but there was so much time spent accompanying him 12 of those last 13 days he spent on earth, I'd become a little worn down. I further hoped to be able to point people to an obituary link, but the two french language newspapers here (La Presse and Journal de Montréal) don't supply a link to the exact page - only to their website. The obituary was the same in both, one site however contained a pic.
For those of us who like to fish here are the links to the french language Montreal newspaper websites , and (for search purposes) there are three different terms that are used to denote obituary sections or columns - décès , obituaires, or nécrologie
For easier reading , I copied the pic and french obituary and posted it below , directly after which I roughly translated (in green) the notable parts of Father Allard's service - taken from the obituary. After that, I posted another pic I had of him.
FROM FATHER ALLARD'S OBITUARY
ALLARD, Georges-Etienne M. o.s.m. 1926 - 2010 À l'Institut universitaire gériatrique, Montréal, est décédé f. Georges-Etienne-M.
Father Allard:
* Deceased at the age of 84.
* He was a member of the Order of Servites (Servites de Marie) for 64 years.
* He served as a missionary in Swaziland, South Africa from 1956-1974.
* He served at Saint Donat’s parish in Montreal from 1974-1976.
* For 20 years he devoted his service to those suffering from mental illness.
* He was a music teacher for 20 years.
The obituary fails to mention that while in Swaziland, Father Allard also taught english.
Also missing from the obituary are any details about his ministry during his ten years plus receiving long-term care at the "Institut"... the years during which I had the privilege of assisting him, while he also assisted me in the capacity of spiritual director , confessor , mentor, and overall dear friend.
To give you an idea, it is important for anyone in long-term care to do whatever they are able to do physically...in order to preserve their autonomy. So in the beginning ( when he first came to the Institut - around January, 2000), Father Allard kept his own Mass Register. As things progressed, I would help him in this area. By 2005, Father Allard's one working hand no longer had the ability to write, so the Mass Register became my total responsibility.
I wanted to give his superior an idea of just how active Father Allard was as a priest during his protracted illness despite the daunting disablities which constantly threatened to overtake him. So I reviewed his Mass Registers from the year 2005 onwards.
We can safely say that in his 10 years in long-term care , Father Allard celebrated the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass over 2000 times (both presiding and concelebrating) ; this, based on what appears in his Mass Registers from 2005-2010 :
From January 1, 2005 to April 1, 2010 , Father Georges-Étienne Allard, OSM offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass 1, 366 times.
It has to be more than fotuitous that the last Mass Father Allard would celebrate was the Mass of the Lord's Supper on April 1st, 2010 - the Mass for priests.
Here's a pic of Father Allard in early November 2008
Father Allard's funeral will be held on Friday, April 16th , at 10:30 am EST .
Thanks everyone for the prayers.
... I believe in the Communion of Saints...
